The global supply chain is showing a trend of fragmentation. What will the future look like?

Guy Bernard Ryder, UN Under-Secretary-General for Policy, emphasized that he does not think that the world is on a course for deglobalization in a Dialogue with SFC recently.

Global supply chains are changing. They have been re-engineered for different reasons. But Ryder does not personally subscribe to the idea that global supply chains are being broken up in a process of what is sometimes referred to as deglobalization that we are stepping back from a globalized to a deglobalized economy.

“We hear about decoupling. We hear about all of these ideas. We are also of course in a situation of some delicacy in terms of trade relations with reciprocal tariffs being applied,” he added. “But I do not think we will see the end of an open trading system.”
